Role Description

We are looking to expand by adding an Accountant to our construction team. This position will report of the Corporate Controller and is a senior level position. As an Accountant, you will be directly responsible for processing all invoices received for payment and for undertaking the payment in accordance with terms and in compliance with internal financial policies and procedures for Luxton Construction Inc. & its subsidiaries. Daily duties will include data entry and disbursement of payroll, non-payroll accounts payable to individuals, suppliers, corporations, and other entities according to the approved schedule. This includes maintaining ledgers, credit balances, and account irregularities. This position involves diplomatic interaction to provide billing information and support to facilitate daily bank reconciliations.

  • Responsible for preparing bi-weekly payroll and calculating source deductions and remittances.
  • Lead full cycle accounting, oversee accounts payable/receivable and loan/asset management.
  • Lead monthly close and variance evaluation, including reporting package to Company Controller.
  • Oversee financial management, internal reporting, forecasting, budgeting, GST, and coordinate the audit process and act as a liaison with auditors.
  • Process WCB accounts payment, maintain monthly records and open new WCB accounts based on each project and province where the project is located.
  • Maintain LOA’s, employee credit card statements, issued credit cards, setting up limits and linking employee credit card with SAP concur software.
  • Create and process ROE, T4, T4A and T5018 statements.
  • Conduct compliance reporting to Province of BC and the CRA.
  • Conduct the company’s fiscal activity including budgeting, reporting, taxes, and auditing operations.
  • Provide financial simulation & projection analysis for projects including ROI & depreciation.
  • Work with Operations to drive strong business focus on inventory analysis & reporting with accountability.
  • Develop and manage KPIs and create a financial analytics dashboard utilized by the Company Principals.
  • Streamline month-end close, and provide accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing financial statements and reporting.
  • Perform day to day financial transactions and data entry, including verifying, positing, and recording accounts payable data.
  • Balance monthly A/P, A/R batches; prepare and distribute payment reports and statistics to Company Principals and Corporate Controller.
  • Obtain approval for disbursements and ensure all proposed credit card payments have been approved in accordance with the Company’s approval authority limits.
  • Prepare, propose, and fill out payments to third parties, whether by credit card, Electronic Funds Transfer, or cheques if required.
  • Review all credit balances, refunds, and adjustments, and apply adjustments and/or corrections to corporate billing records.
  • Assure legal and regulatory documents are filed and monitor compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Identify and address financial risks for the company and report it to Company Principals on monthly basis to reduce costs.
  • Ensure period end cut-off and prepare period end accruals.
  • Ensure the strict confidentiality and privacy of financial records as they relate to the organization and its business partners/subsidiaries.
  • Verify account codes and Investigate payment problems while following corporate A/P policies and procedures.
  • Review purchase order receipts for potential errors and/or discrepancies.
  • Maintain accounting controls by following policies and procedures, complying with federal and provincial financial legal requirements.
  • Assist in maintaining policy and procedure documentation for financial and accounting practices.
  • Keep current knowledge of regulatory changes and impacts on the organization's books of account.
  • Maintain an accurate and complete trail of supporting documentation for all financial and accounting activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Job Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field required.
  • CPA designation or working towards a CPA designation preferred.
  • 6+ years of experience in full-cycle accounting.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks, payroll software and the MS Suite of programs.
  • Experience in Construction Industry an asset.
  • Excellent understanding of general accounting practices, procedures, and principles.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced dynamic start up environment.
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves and perform tasks outside of the traditional job description.
  • Strong work ethic, pro-active and get-it-done right the first-time philosophy.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail while working under tight deadlines.
  • Assertive, comfortable communicating with various types of individuals.
  • Ability to follow through and complete overlapping projects.
  • System implementations experience an asset.
